DIVORCE  AND CHILDREN

DEFINITION: “The break up of a family through divorce can be a wrenching experience for children. Divorce can adversely effect a child’s school work, future employment and their own marriages. Some experts say that the effects on children are greatly exaggerated.” (CQ Researcher June 7, 1991)

NARROW THE TOPIC:

·         Does divorce have a long-term effect on children?

·          Should marriages be saved for the children?

·         What can be done to reduce the effects of divorce on children?

·         Should grandparents have visitation rights?

·         What can be done about the problem of child support and deadbeat dads?

·         Are children of divorce more likely to have failed marriages?

·         Would making divorce more difficult have a positive effect on children?

·         Is there a correlation between increased juvenile delinquency, drug use, alcoholism, etc. with children of divorce?

·         Are children of two-parent families better off than children of divorced parents?
