DEFINITION: “Numerous studies have found that most smokers start smoking when they are in their teens.  If they do not start smoking before age eighteen, chances are they will never start.  Antismoking groups charge that tobacco companies know this fact well, and they combat it by targeting children in their advertising.” (Tobacco and Smoking: Opposing Viewpoints)
