Who is eligible to use this service?
Interlibrary loan service is available to current faculty, students and staff at Broward
Community College and Florida Atlantic University. FAU patrons may also
place their ILL requests through the FAU Boca campus library; however, the
material must then also be picked up and returned to the Boca campus
library.How long does it take?
Most loan requests are filled within 1 to 2 weeks from libraries within the
state, not counting weekends and holidays. If the item is available within
the South Florida region, it may be delivered within a week. However,
out-of-state loans can take two weeks or more. Requests are placed with the
first library that shows the item available. Please remember
that with ILL requests we are at the mercy of the lending library and the
mail service.
How will I be notified?
We will call or email you when your material arrives. Please be sure to
include your telephone number or email address on the request form.
How much will it cost?
It's usually free. The University/College Library maintains reciprocal agreements with
many libraries and makes every attempt to procure items from these
cooperating institutions. If there is a charge, and you have indicated that you are willing to pay, we
will order the items and invoice you when we receive the requested material. Most
libraries charge a flat fee of $8 to $15.
Is there any other cost?
If the material is returned late, overdue fines are charged. Any lost or
damaged materials are charged at a rate set by the lending library.
How can I speed up the process?
- Search the LINCC catalog to be sure that the library does not own the
book or journal you need.
- Fill out a separate request form for each item.
- Make sure that the request is filled out legibly and completely.
- Include ISSN or ISBN numbers. These numbers help us
identify the exact item you need.
- If the University/College Library owns the journal, but
not the specific issue you need, make a note of this on the request form.
How many requests can I make?
There is no limit on the number of requests that the ILL Department will
accept from a patron. However, we are only able to request up to 5 items a
day per patron from other libraries.
What kind of materials may be borrowed?
Various types of circulating materials are available through interlibrary loan
including: books, dissertations, journal articles, government documents, theses and
microforms. The lending library determines what kinds of materials it will
loan.
What types of material are difficult to obtain through ILL?
New books, rare books, reference material and audiovisual items are usually difficult to obtain.
However videos owned by FAU Boca can usually be borrowed for FAU students and
faculty for use at the Davie Campus.
How long can I keep the material?
Most ILL material borrowed from another libray is checked out for 28 days.
The length of the loan, however, is determined by the lending library. FAU
faculty and graduate students can request that the U/CL try to borrow the
material from FAU Boca campus and request that the material be checked out
for the academic term. If FAU Boca does not have the material requested, the
ILL request will be made from the first library that indicates it has the
materials available and the loan period will be determined by that library.
Can ILL materials be renewed?
Many libraries will renew books and microfilm for one additional loan period. The request
for renewals must be made no later than 2 days before the book is due back to the library.
If you need to renew your loan, call the ILL department. (954.201.6658) We cannot request a renewal if
the book is overdue. It is up to the lending library as to whether we can
renew the book.
How do I submit requests?
You may submit requests
electronically
or by filling out an ILL request form at the Library. The paper forms are available
in the Library at the interlibrary loan
office, the circulation desk and the reference desk.
If I am a student at an off campus location, may I submit requests
electronically?
Yes, you may submit requests
electronically.
However, you must come to the University/College Library on the BC Davie
Campus to pick up the material once it arrives.
