Directions for ILL Direct Request

Direct Request is a service offered by WorldCat through the FirstSearch database that allows students, faculty, and staff to make a request for a book or a periodical that they want directly from the library that owns it! This speeds up the processing time for an interlibrary loan request.
The book or periodical will be sent to the U/C Library’s Interlibrary Loan Department and they will contact you to pick it up. To use Direct Request follow the simple steps below.
 

•From the University/College home page (http://ucl.broward.edu) click on “Databases by Title” under “Finding Articles”.

 

• Click on the letter “w” or scroll down the screen to “WorldCat via FirstSearch.”


• Click on "WorldCat via FirstSearch" and you will be directed to it through LINCCWeb. If you are off campus you will need to enter your BCCcard library number, beginning with 23301as your Borrower ID. Then enter your pin # which is the last four digits of your student ID number. FAU students, please enter as your user ID the 14-digit number on the front/back of your FAU Owl Card, beginning with 219. Please do not type the letter "A" at the beginning or end. Your pin # is the last four digits of your student ID number.Click on Connect to Database.

• Once on the WorldCat Basic Search screen, key in your search terms in one or more of the boxes and click on Search.

 
•After you have retrieved the record for the desired book or periodical click on “Borrow this item from another library.”

 

•Fill out the form and click on the “Submit” button.


• If you have completed the form correctly, FirstSearch will respond with the message that your request was successfully sent.

 

• You can also click on the ILL Direct link at the top of the Interlibrary Loan Web page.
